Dr. Avi Kober (Ph.D. Hebrew University) is a senior lecturer in Political Studies at Bar-Ilan University and Senior Research Associate at the BESA Center. He served in IDF's Planning Department and in the National Security Unit at the Israeli Ministry of Defense, and has been Associate Researcher with PIPES (Program on International Economics and Security) at the University of Chicago.


Specialization:

Military thought, Israeli national security doctrine and policy, Arab-Israeli wars, and low-intensity conflicts.

Recent Publications:

Among others, Dr. Kober is the author of Coalition Defection: The Dissolution of Arab Anti-Israel Coalitions in War and Peace (Westport, CT: Praeger, 2002), and Battlefield Decision in the Arab-Israeli Wars, 1948-1982 (Tel-Aviv, 1995) [Hebrew].

Kober also published articles and chapters in edited volumes on military thought and Israeli security problems, including:
