Re: American Counseling Associations Response to AUT Boycott Against Israeli Scholars- For Publication
Dear Richard, Sam, Pat and Mark;
As a member of the American Counseling Association since 1968, and as a Past President of the American Mental Health Counselor's Association who fought and still stands for AMHCA's inclusion in ACA and as a co-founder of the ACA Jewish Interest Group, I am proud and pleased to receive notice of ACA's resolution regarding the British Association of University Professor's boycott against Israeli scholars.
I know that my colleagues at both University of Haifa and Bar Ilan University, will be pleased and comforted to know that the largest professional and academic association of counselor educators and professional counselors practicing in many settings has taken the position it has. I am delighted that in its commitment to multiculturalism, academic excellence, and academic integrity the ACA Governing Council has stepped up to the plate for academic freedom and against bigotry and boycotting.
In case you didn't know it, ACA stands in the proud company of ( to date): The American Federation of Teachers, American Mathematical Society, American Historical Society, American Philosophical Association, Middle Eastern Studies Association Committee on Academic Freedom, Oxford University UK, Warwick University UK, Sussex University UK, New York Academy of Sciences, and a joint statement by the Presidents of the Hebrew University and Al-Quds Universities among many other groups voicing their opposition to the boycott.
I have never been prouder to be a member of ACA. I have never been prouder to have been a past member of the Governing Council. Please accept my heartfelt personal and professional thanks.
