Dear News Online
Could you please let me know why you have posted a biased report (just before a crucial AUT vote later this week) with Sue Blackwell of Birmingham University? Her statements about Haifa and Bar Ilan Universities have been vigorously challenged by various experts who have placed them in the public domain. In addition, Jewish academics were prevented from voting on the issue in April, because the initial meeting was held on the eve of Passover. This was illegal as well as unethical. What is more, dissenting voices from the floor were not allowed to be heard. The AUT is therefore faced with being sued for libel and defamation by a leading London solicitor, acting on behalf of Haifa University.
Why did you not mention the many Nobel Prize winners who have written in support of these two universities and also the letter of support for Israeli universities from German universities?
Unlike the vast majority of the media, you and your organisation continue to vilify Israel and her institutions by your biased and ignorant reporting, which is leading to attacks on members of the Jewish community and a rapid deterioration in community relations.
Haifa University has just found a cure for autism in pinpointing what makes people recognise irony and sarcasm. Very apt, I would have thought, and worthy of publishing on your Web Page.
When it was pointed out to your colleagues in the Religion and Ethics Unit that a similar defamatory posting on their Web Page was actually inaccurate, they immediately deleted it.
What a pity that there does not seem to be much communication throughout the BBC.
I look forward to receiving your reply.
