BAR-ILAN INSTITUTE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY & ADVANCED MATERIALS | 2019 ANNUAL REPORT

Prof. Ehud Banin , a microbiologist, is a member of the Nano-Medicine Center at the Bar-Ilan Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA), and a professor at the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences at Bar-Ilan University where he also serves as the Vice Dean for Research. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in the US at the University of Iowa and the University of Washington, Prof. Banin returned to Israel and established the Biofilm Research Laboratory at Bar-Ilan University. In his laboratory, he implements an array of physiological, biochemical, and genetic tools combined with novel technologies that allow controlled and reproducible biofilm growth to characterize bacterial biofilms and compare them to the non-biofilm communities. Prof. Banin uses his vast knowledge to define new treatment targets and identify materials with antibiofilm activity, in order to develop effective new drugs against biofilm. Prof. Banin develops antibacterial surfaces and textiles for both medical and environmental purposes. 23
