BAR-ILAN INSTITUTE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY & ADVANCED MATERIALS | 2019 ANNUAL REPORT

62 properties of solid state systems. Using advanced nano -fabrication techniques, high precision electric measurements and low temperature techniques we study the properties of different geometries such as ultrathin films, nanowires, granular films and quantum dots focusing on disordered metals, superconductors and ferromagnets. Currently the group’s areas of interest include the disorder induced superconductor-insulator-transition, transport through nanoparticles and electron-glass properties in strongly disorder metals. Prof. Yuval Garini Department of Physics Member of BINA, Nano-Photonics Center Research Areas • Nano-biophysics • Study of protein-DNA interaction on the single-molecule level • Development of a novel optical method with a nanometer precision for detection of DNA-protein interactions • Study of the organization of the genome in the nucleus and its disruption in cancer cells Abstract Bio-Nano-Photonics TWe study biological systems by combining novel optical and biophysical methods. One of the main projects is to understand the organization of the genome in the nucleus. This is a complex challenge that requires a unified approach that combines physical understanding with biological knowledge. By using advanced live-cell imaging, we succeeded to identify an important mechanism and we continue our efforts to understand its details. We use single molecule methods, nano particles and advanced theoretical methods for understanding the properties of DNA and its interaction with proteins. The organization of the genome in the nucleus: Chromosomes stay in territories and they are not intermixed. We found that lamin A plays important role in maintaining this order.
