Prof. Doron Aurbach, of BIU’s Department of Chemistry, is a world-renowned scientist, one of the most cited and impactful researchers worldwide in the field of electrochemistry (Elsevier Scopus Data, Google Scholar, Web of Science, h-index). His research laid the foundation for the development of high-density rechargeable batteries, from those enabling us to carry the world in the palm of our hands to those that power electric vehicles. Now Prof. Aurbach heads BIU’s newly established Energy and Sustainability Center, where he and his extensive network of collaborators in academia, industry and government will join hands to deliver innovative energy solutions to the globalwarming challenge. In an almost three-decade celebrated academic career, Prof. Aurbach has received numerous prestigious prizes: He is the first Israeli scientist to receive the Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation (2018) and the recipient of the Israel Chemical Society (ICS) Gold Medal for Excellence in Science (2020), the Alexander Frumkin Medal of the International Society of Electrochemistry (2018) and the Allen J. Bard Medal of the Electrochemical Society (2017). 31
