The new facility, built in response to the significant growth in the number of medical students, will include 12,000 square meters of state-of-the-art learning spaces, an auditorium, an advanced library, and leisure areas including a gym and cafeterias. It will serve as a hub for advanced medical education and research.

“The most important Zionist project of our time”

Bar-Ilan University President Prof. Arie Zaban emphasized the national importance of the project during the ceremony: “Since founding the Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee, the challenges have only grown—both in terms of security and planning—but we continue to take step after step to fulfill our vision. I see this as one of the most important Zionist projects of our time: strengthening the Galilee and bringing residents back to the north with a strong healthcare system.”

Chair of the University’s Standing Committee, Shlomo Zohar, thanked all project partners and donors:
“This is Bar-Ilan University’s way of making a lasting impact on the Galilee and the health of its residents.”

A Research Network for the Galilee

Alongside construction, the Faculty of Medicine is leading a major research initiative: the establishment of a regional network of nine Centers of Excellence focused on diverse fields of medicine.

Prof. Orly Avni, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, shared: “Each center will bring together top-tier scientists and physicians in close collaboration, expected to generate major scientific and clinical breakthroughs.”

She added: “This initiative is built on a clear vision of deep integration between scientists and physicians—a connection that directly improves the quality of life for Galilee residents, promotes health equity, and provides fertile ground for medical innovations relevant to diverse populations in Israel and worldwide.”
