Bar-Ilan University has established a NIS 16 million emergency fund to assist approximately one third of its 20,000 students who've been drafted into reserve duty and for ten initiatives launched for the benefit of the community-at-large.
Students on the front lines will each receive a NIS 1,000-5,000 grant to be applied towards housing and tuition, emotional support, and additional study hours during the academic year.
400 Israeli and international academia seniors, and approximately 700 additional child wellbeing experts from a variety of disciplines and academic institutions, published a letter today, calling upon the international community and the UN Secretary-General to act urgently for the immediate release of the Israeli children who are being held hostage in Gaza.
The war in Israel has generated diverse emergency needs for thousands of people. For non-Hebrew speakers, the challenge is greater, as in such situations it is critical to provide accurate details or receive reliable information and instructions. Bar-Ilan University’s Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies has set up the first telephone translation system for emergency services in Israel to address these needs.

Bar-Ilan University and its Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee have launched an emergency crowdfunding campaign for the purchase of 200 compact portable ultrasound devices to be used by IDF soldiers and medical teams in combat areas. These innovative devices will help diagnose critical injuries at the front, for effective prioritization and evacuation.
Each device costs $4,000. Any amount can be donated toward the purchase of the devices on the secure website.
Following the security events in Israel, Bar-Ilan University has launched a hotline for mental support. Line 03-5318811 will be operated by mental health professionals, and will be available to students, faculty members and the general public over the current week.
The line will be active between 8.10 and 13.10, during the hours of 08:00-22:00 on weekdays, and 10:00-14:00 on Friday.

Upon the start of the academic year 2023-2024, the Bar-Ilan University management approved a special plan that will address both the needs of Israel and its economy, and those of students serving in the reserve forces. As part of the plan, every student serving in the reserves will receive the university’s 'Academic Armor', which includes academic and administrative benefits, emotional support, and an advisor from the university.
