The Halpern Center for the Study of Consciousness According to Judaism and the Marcell and Maria Roth Chair in the History and Culture of Polish Jewry, both situated at the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry at Bar-Ilan University, are inviting applications for post-doctoral fellowships of up to 70,000 NIS, for the academic year 2026–2027.

The fellowship will be undertaken at the department.

The Halpern Center typically supports projects that deal with consciousness and self-consciousness in Jewish societies in historical perspective, and the Roth Chair focuses on East European Jewish History.

Criteria
The fellowships are open to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree in 2022 or thereafter.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to deliver a lecture sponsored by the Halpern Center on their research over the course of the academic year, to participate in the activities of the Center, and is expected to acknowledge the Center’s support in all relevant future publications.

List of publications

Copy of Doctoral Degree

Detailed research proposal, including a one-page bibliography

Letter of reference from the doctoral advisor

Letter from a faculty member of the Bar-Ilan Department of Jewish History who is willing to serve as mentor for the duration of the fellowship
