Bar-Ilan University and its Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee have launched an emergency crowdfunding campaign for the purchase of 200 compact portable ultrasound devices to be used by IDF soldiers and medical teams in combat areas. These innovative devices will help diagnose critical injuries at the front, for effective prioritization and evacuation.

Each device costs $4,000. Any amount can be donated toward the purchase of the devices on the secure website.

The initiative of using the portable ultrasound devices at the front came from a student of BIU’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, who is currently serving in the IDF, near the Gaza border. The faculty management, led by Prof. Orly Avni, decided to help purchase the device for the IDF medical teams. The initiative was approved by the IDF, and with the support of Bar-Ilan University’s CEO Zohar Yinon, the initial budget for the purchase of dozens of devices was attained. Now Bar-Ilan University invites the public to join in and help purchase additional devices to address the need in the field

Alongside the purchase and distribution of the devices, doctors and graduates of BIU’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine who are skilled in working with the innovative device, are making efforts to rapidly train the medical teams in the field, whenever and wherever required
