Dr. Nitzan Gonen Awarded Prestigious Krill Prize

Dr. Nitzan Gonen, from the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences and Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, is one of ten brilliant young Israeli researchers to receive the prestigious Krill Prize for their unique contributions to their research fields.

Theory of Interdependent Networks Manifested in a Laboratory for the First Time

In 2010 Prof. Shlomo Havlin and collaborators published an article in the journal Nature proposing that the abrupt electricity failure causing the famous 2003 Italy blackout was a consequence of the inter-dependency of two networks. According to Havlin's theory the dependency between the power network and its communication system led to cascading failures and abrupt collapse.

Bar-Ilan University awards outstanding individuals with honorary doctorate degrees for their unique contributions to science, humanity, and the arts in Israel and abroad. This year's honorary doctorate recipients are former IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, the Atidim Organization, artist Sigalit Landau, Rabbi Yaakov Medan, Yale University Prof. Joan Steitz, and the entertainment troupe Zehu Ze!

Later this month, in the framework of its 68th annual Board of Trustees meetings, Bar-Ilan University will award an honorary doctorate to the members of the Zehu Ze! music and comedy group.
