The steps involved in course registration

Everything you need to know about course registration and creating a schedule for the coming academic year

You’ve been admitted to the study program you applied for? You’ve been notified that you may proceed to the next academic year of study? Before the opening of the new academic year, you need to use the Bar-Ilan systems to register for the relevant courses in your study program and create a schedule of courses required for the coming year in your program.

How is that done?

This page presents all the steps you need to take for course registration for the coming year, and everything you need to know to create a course schedule for the academic year.

We recommend you read this information as soon as you get your admission letter.

Trial run

During the trial run, students can familiarize themselves with the course registration process.

We recommend that all students log in to the trial environment and practice creating their schedules.

The trial environment becomes available about a month before the registration period for the academic year.

Registration periods for the academic year

Registration periods are set based on the student’s study program and year of study.

Registration for courses shall take place only in the order described above.

The personal registration window of each student is displayed in the In-Bar portal about a month before the registration period.

Registration periods for 2024-25

Registration windows (registration times)

Course registration takes place gradually, based on each student’s study program and year of study.

Students may register for courses only in the registration window established for them.

The registration window is a four-hour period on a particular date and time, during which students may register for courses or make changes to their schedule. Course registration is limited to that window only.

After registering in the assigned time window, students are given the option of logging in to the system between 6:00 p.m. and 04:00 a.m. on the night of the assigned window and on the two nights that follow (on the last night – only until midnight) to continue the course registration process / make schedule changes.

Your personal time window can be found on the In-Bar platform under “TimeTables ....” (on the right). https://inbar.biu.ac.il/Live/Login.aspx

The course registration system is not available on Friday, Shabbat nor holidays.

Registration window for latecomers
Latecomer windows are intended for students whose first time window has passed (including the nighttime windows) and was not utilized at all.

Latecomer windows will not be available for students who do not register for courses using the online registration system.

Limitations and issues in the registration process

  • Non-payment of outstanding tuition debts and/or non-payment of the tuition advance
  • Time overlaps among scheduled courses (prohibited by Bar-Ilan University policy)
  • Failure to meet course preconditions and/or prerequisites
  • Note: If your attempt to register for a course is denied by the system, a corresponding explanation shall be displayed on the screen. For example, course full, registration beyond the number of credits required by your academic program, etc.

Issues encountered during the course registration process are to be handled as follows:

  • For academic issues, such as clusters, courses within clusters, credits for registration, full courses, prerequisites, contact the department via In-Bar > Requests and authorizations > Departmental inquiry, and then select the desired department.
  • To update your academic track (change of preference) – If the course registration platform does not contain your chosen academic track among the tracks you were admitted to, be in touch as soon as possible with:
Undergraduate degree – Student Admissions using this
    request form
Graduate degrees – The School of Graduate Studies using this request form
  • If your assigned English level doesn’t match your English abilities please contact the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) Department.
  • For technical issues such as system access, unclear error messages, units credits that have not been updated, incorrect official year of study and others, contact the Services and Recruitment Center at *9392 or 03-5317000.
Responsibility for registration

Responsibility for drawing up a schedule and making sure it corresponds to the enrolled program lies with the student.

Any registration/cancellation of courses affects your tuition and obligates you, correspondingly, as is binding by the Tuition Policy Document.

Students are required to log into In-Bar > Schedule and verify that their course schedule has been updated accordingly.

Students attending classes for which they have not registered will be considered as not having attended the course and will not be permitted to take exams.

Retroactive registration will not be possible.

Change window

The intent of the change window is to allow students to make changes in their course schedule (registering for courses or dropping courses) after the start of the academic year or the spring semester.

Tuition charges are updated accordingly.

There are two change periods in the course of the academic year:

  • One change period at the start of the academic year, in which changes can be made to fall semester courses, spring semester courses or yearlong courses.
  • The change window for spring semester courses only is held about a week before the start of that semester.
