Appointments and Prizes for Faculty and Students

Faculty members and students who were appointed to prestigious positions or won awards in recent months include:

Members of the Faculty:

Dr. Uriel Gellman of the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Department of Jewish History won the Shazar Prize for Research in the History of Israel for his book, The Emergence of Hasidism in Poland.

Professor Sharon Gannot from the Alexander Kofkin Faculty of Engineering was appointed an IEEE Fellow (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

Professor Emeritus Ed Greenstein from the Zalman Shamir Department of Hebrew Bible whose book, an English translation of the Book of Job with an introduction and commentary, won the World Union of Jewish Studies prize in North America in the category of biblical exegesis, rabbinical literary research and ancient Jewish research.

Dr. Moran Dvela-Levitt from the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences won the Alon fellowship for the 5782 (2021-22) academic year.

Professor Tsilly Dagan of the Faculty of Law won the Shneur Zalman Cheshin Award for Academic Excellence in Law for the 5781 (2020-2021) academic year.

Professor Tamar Wolf-Monzon of the Joseph and Norman Berman Department of Literature of the Jewish People was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of the National Library of Israel.

Dr. Vered Tohar of the Joseph and Norman Berman Department of Literature of the Jewish People was appointed as a representative of Bar-Ilan University in the Council of the Dov Noy Israel Folktale Archives (IFA).

Professor Cyrille Cohen of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences was appointed President of the Israeli Society for Cancer Research.

Professor Rector Miriam Faust of the Department of Psychology was appointed Chairperson of the Council for Higher Education’s higher committees to grant professorships in the fields of Humanities, Management and Law.

Professor Yuval Feldman of the Faculty of Law won the Fattal Prize for Excellence in Law Research for the 5781 (2020-2021) academic year in the field of Law Theory (together with Professor David Enoch of the Hebrew University).

Professor Emeritus Yehuda Friedlander of the Joseph and Norman Berman Department of Literature of the Jewish People and Comparative Literature was appointed Chairman of the Council for Higher Education’s higher committees to grant professorships in the fields of Humanities and Arts.

Dr. Ariel Rosenfeld of the Department of Information Science was chosen as Chairman of the 18th Conference on Multi-Agent Systems.

Professor Shmuel Refael of the Joseph and Norman Berman Department of Literature of the Jewish People and Director of the Naime and Yehoshua Salti Institute for Ladino Studies was appointed Scientific Secretary of Israel’s National Academy for Ladino.

Professor Emerita Ora Schwarzwald of the Department of Hebrew and Semitic Languages was appointed President of Israel’s National Academy for Ladino.

Elisheva Berkovitz of the Alexander Kofkin Faculty of Engineering and Oshrit Shtusel (Wignenski) from the Department of Mathematics were awarded research scholarships for excellent female students in the field of hi-tech, for the academic year 5781 (2020-2021).

Hila Gonen from the Department of Computer Science was awarded the Rotschild Prize in Computer Science.

Moriah Wellstein Zeltser of the School of Communication was awarded the President’s Prize for Excellence and Scientific Innovation for her proposal, “Interactions of Journalists on Twitter during the Elections.”

Lila Suleiman of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences and Milham Lema of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine won a research scholarship for excellent MA students from the Arab population in the 5781 (2020-2021) academic year.

Yaron Kahleni and Shira Filo of the Department of Psychology were awarded a research scholarship for MA students from the Haredi population in the 5781 (2020-2021) academic year.
