Bar-Ilan University hosted Israelectrochemistry 2021– this year’s annual meetings of the Israel Electrochemical Society (ISEL) on campus on June 17, 2021. Convening electrochemists from academia, research centers and industry, the event opened with an online keynote lecture given by the 2019 Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry, Prof. M. Stanley Whittingham, who received an Honorary Doctorate degree from BIU in May. He spoke on “Lithium Battery Origins & Future Challenges/Opportunities” on June 16.

Jewish Biblical Interpretation in Middle Ages

BIU's Zalman Shamir Department of Bible held an online international conference in memory of Aharon Mondschein, "Mainstream and Margins: Jewish Biblical Interpretation in the Middle Ages", on June 16-17, 2021.

Religious Diplomacy and Abraham Accords

BIU’s Conflict Management, Resolution and Negotiation Graduate Program held an online conference, “Religious Diplomacy in the Context of the UAE-Israel Abraham Accords: Theory and Practice”, on June 8, 2021. The event also marked the debut of Dr. Daniel Roth’s new book:Third-Party Peacemaking in Judaism: Text, Theory, and Practice”, Oxford University Press, 2021.

Multidisciplinary BA in Jewish Studies

Bar-Ilan University launched a new Multidisciplinary BA in Jewish Studies program, taught entirely in English, which allows students to engage in a rich world of study, scholarship, and community.

The program enables students to create individualized curricula that best reflect their particular interests within the field of Jewish Studies, with a focus on four fields: Bible, Jewish History, Jewish Philosophy, and Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology.

“Russian-Israeli Literature, A History”

BIU’s Berman Department of Literature of the Jewish People held an online symposium on “Russian-Israeli Literature, A History” on June 29, 2021.  The event included lectures on Russian Ghetto Literature, Israeli-Soviet Literary Ties, Russian-Israeli Poetry, Russian Language Israeli Dramaturgy, Genre Preferences of Israeli-Russian Fantastic, and more.

The Fountain of Youth

Aging is associated with an overall decline in health and increased frailty, and is a major risk factor for multiple chronic diseases. Frailty syndrome, characterized by weakness, fatigue and low physical activity, affects more than 30% of the elderly population.  Increasing our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the aging process is a top priority to facilitate the development of interventions that will lead to the preservation of health and improvements on survival and lifespan.
