Meet Srikanth Dutt, 29, from Srikakulam, a small town in southern India, who is now completing his PhD studies in Neuroscience at BIU’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee. His research, under the guidance of Dr. Hava Gil-Henn and Dr. Evan Elliot, focuses on deciphering the mechanism of learning, memory and anxiety, and developing novel therapeutic methods that may ultimately be used to treat Alzheimer’s disease.
She made Aliyah from New York four years ago and during her National Service, was a tour guide in Jerusalem’s Old City. As one of Bar-Ilan University’s 900 international students, she is glad to pursue a BA degree in Israel and actively encourages others from abroad to enroll. Weathering the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, she made her first Pesach Seder in Givat Shmuel, where she resides. Meet Miriam Blum, 22, who is completing her final year of undergraduate studies at BIU’s School of Communication and Department of Political Studies.
Meet Dr. Kavita Sharma, 30, of New Delhi, a postdoctoral fellow in the Fiber-Optics and Integrated Photonic Devices Research Lab at Bar-Ilan University’s Kofkin Faculty of Engineering. Last winter, she flew home to India for a family visit, but then, with the global outbreak of COVID-19 there were no flights back to Israel to be had. Finally, in late July, she was one of 100 doctoral and postdoctoral students to board a special flight from Mumbai to Tel Aviv, initiated by Bar-Ilan University in cooperation with Israir.
Meet Lee Azolai, 29, a second-year student at Bar-Ilan University’s Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, and the new President of the Medical Student Association of the Galilee. Lee, who commenced his medical studies in Prague, is now enrolled in the Faculty’s three-year MD study track for Israelis who completed three years of pre-clinical medical studies abroad.
He’s a research scientist at Facebook AI Research in Tel Aviv and a professional drummer who performs worldwide. Meet Yossi Adi, 32, a recent graduate of the Department of Computer Science at Bar-Ilan University, who has just won the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award for 2020 from the Israeli Association for Artificial Intelligence (IAAI).
